The first week back is always a hurricane!

It was so good to some home for a few weeks before school. Its always good to see family and good friends. Coming back to Columbus is always an adjustment, but this time to mix things up we had to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Ike! That particular Hurricane must have had something against the Mackay family because he hit Huston where my brother and Dad live (they are all okay!) and then headed north to Ohio! Yeah, I never knew hurricanes came to Ohio, but apparently they do. It was technically a level one hurricane and did quite a bit of damage. My power was only out for about 36 hours, but some unfortunate folk went the whole week without it. Crazy! In addition to that mayhem, I have been busy getting prepared for my first semester as a college teacher. Now that is scary! :) Wish me luck!

Your contemporary art fix

So I saw on my friend Nicole's blog helpful little work out tips, and I thought to myself, what a great idea. I like that she is imparting her wisdom on the less educated on the subject, like my scrawny self. Maybe now i'll buff up. Anyway, I thought I would also share my knowledge and periodically post some cool stuff going on in the mysterious world of contemporary art.

My first featured artist is Daniel Buren. He is an amazing artist who challenges the notions of perception by constructing works of art that can be experienced as a place with the body as well as the eyes. The works cross the border of sculpture and painting and break the tradition of painting being relegated to the wall. They are actually quite theoretical in their design, but still quite effortlessly visually engaging. I love it!

My adorable niece

she just keeps getting cutter! I love her little mischievous expression
