Oh my darling Caroline. Happy Birthday! This past year has been so joyful because of you. You have brought such a light and peace to our home and I love everything you add to our family. Caroline, you are the sweetest person I know. Just looking into your eyes makes my heart swell. As your mother I want so much for you. I want you to see the beauty this world has to offer, I want to shield you from the pain. I want you to be a strong, smart and independent woman. I want you to be a kind, gentle and loving soul. And I know you will be all these things. I already see it in you! I love to watch you take pride and joy in your accomplishments. I just look at your smile and I smile. Thank you for teaching me to slow down, to be still and to take time to have moments with you. The moments when I am alone with you reading to you in my lap and seeing your deep and soulful eyes light up are the moments worth living for. What would our family be like without our sweet, sweet Caroline?
Early on in my pregnancy with Caroline I could sense she was a very calm and peaceful soul. Sh sis so special, I wish I could put it into words.
She is starting to really find humor in things. It is funny to see some of her little personality shine through. She is starting to be quite an opinionated little lady. And she is VERY vocal about things. She lets you know when she wants something. She also has developed a pretty good little vocabulary for a 1 year old. She says: Mama, Papa, Water, Cracker, Ball, Baby, Go, Cuckoo, Boo, Bye-Bye, and she loves to make animal sounds.
She is still quite a serious and thoughtful little girl. She is always thinking!
So sweet! She was very proud of herself when she figured out how to blow the whistle!
This is the first book Caroline specifically picked out from the library. It has a little button that makes giggle noises and she LOVES it! I almost didn't check it out, but she wouldn't have it! She always gets a big smile when she presses the button.
The girl has mastered the art of stair climbing and there isn't much else she'd rather do! She just slides right down and climbs back up again! She is very cautious though!
For the longest time I thought it was coincidence that when Caroline was upset her hair was in her face. I would push it back. Well I realized her hair is kind of like a security blanket for her. She pulls in into her face, and now its long enough she wraps a little bit around her thumb and puts it in her mouth when she gets upset. It is the funniest thing! I pull it out and push it back and she just grabs it forward again. It is not going to be easy to get this girl to stop sucking her thumb!
This picture makes me smile! I so wish it was better quality, its totally grainy, but the expressions are priceless! Caroline has become quite the little instigator with Thomas and he loves it! Ha! It is cute to watch them play. Of course he still torments her most the time, but the little sweet glimpses when they are mutually playing with each other are so sweet.
She has started moving around the living room by pushing her highchair around like a walker. She can stand for quite a few seconds, and she can walk holding one of your hands, but she doesn't quite trust herself yet to try on her own. She gets a pretty big smile when she's walking with you.
My goodness she is getting big!How I love my happy little lady!
A few other things:
Her likes:
Babies
Pushing buttons
turning on lights
playing with my cell phone
Cheese
Watermelon
Food in general (which is a HUGE relief for me)
Drinking from Thomas' zippy cups
Reading books
jumping on the bed
seeing the neighbors dog across the street
cuddling
playing with Thomas
Clint! (Papa is probably her favorite word, she points to his picture all through the day saying Papa! Papa! and then crawls freely fast to him when he gets home. It is the cutest!)
Her dislikes:
Bathtime
Getting in the hot car (Can't blame her!)
getting tortured by her brother
Well She is so easy going that is all I can think of that she really doesn't like! What a pleasant lady!
We love you so much Caroline! Happy Birthday!

She captures your heart really fast, that girl does. I'm so glad for what she has added to our little family. So weird to think that last year I was playing with Thomas in Ohio while you were headed to the hospital. Can't imagine our family without her now.
