The Butterflies

We got 5 pet caterpillars in the mail a few weeks ago and they have become our beloved pets. It was magical for the kids to watch them grow. Today was the day to set them free. It was bittersweet, but very memorable.
We each got to name one of our caterpillars/butterflies. There was Carmen, Abigail, Tie Fighter, Ella and Baba. You can probably guess whose butterfly was whose.  We thought we had lost Carmen during the chrysilis stage, so we were so happy when he/she was the first to hatch!
This little boy is very tender hearted. He had a hard time saying goodbye. He tried to cook up schemes to build a dome over our yard to keep them in, but finally we convinced him that it was best for the butterflies to let them go. He had some tears, but I think he was happy too.

The whole family got into the experience! I had never seen the metamorphosis so I was totally into it too.

The last butterfly, Baba, was a little scared to take off, He stuck around with shaking wings and let the kids hold him before he mustered up the strength to fly away!

Good bye Carmen, Abigail, Tie Fighter, Ella and Baba! We will miss you!
