Utah Trip Part Three: Finch Lane Art Show

One of the main reasons for my trip back home was for my first solo show in Utah! It is up at the Finch Lane Gallery in Salt Lake City until August 12th. If you get a chance, check it out! I'd love to hear what you think about the work. My work is always SO hard to capture with a photograph, so I promise it looks better in person.

I tried to get most of the work finished before Thomas was born, because I had no idea what to expect as far as how much work I could get done while taking care of a baby! Good thing, because it turns out, it is VERY difficult to get work done with a baby! There was a good portion that I did have to do after Thomas was born. Mostly the small pieces that were easy to work on at the kitchen table while Tom was playing on the floor. It has been an adjustment, as an artist, becoming a mother. Before I would prefer to work in three hour blocks of time. Now I just kind of have to chip away at things fifteen minutes here and there. And occasionally I'd have an hour straight at night or during naps. ( Although Thomas's naps usually average out to be about 30-45 minutes!!!!) But I have found that even taking a small amount of time to regularly work on my projects has helped me tremendously. It is almost restorative in nature. For a brief minute I forget about all my other responsibilities and I am just an artist. So as hard as it is, I know its important for me to keep making and showing my work.

The Gallery is located at 54 Finch Lane in Salt Lake City.

Laurie, You really are so talented! I wish I could have been able to go see your art. That's nice that you have art as an outlet sometimes even if it is for a few minutes at a time. :) Great job!

It was a wonderful opening and the pieces are amazing.

You are so gifted, and I can say that since you didn't get those gifts from me.

Everyone, go....you will be so glad you did.

Laurie, it looks so great. Definitely like a successful show to me. Congrats! It's quite an accomplishment to put on an art show with an almost five month old baby. You're amazing. :)

Laurie- Your work is amazing! I can't wait to see it in person. I'm going to figure out a time I can go down to SLC... And I'm so disappointed that I wasn't able to make it to the opening and see you! I'm so glad you are continuing to make work... so inspiring.

I think the pictures you took of your artwork are lovely...but you're right, a picture can't quite capture it in its entirety. I'm glad I got to see it in person. You did a fantastic job and you are very talented.
